Accreditation

In the German accreditation system, all Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes undergo a peer-review-based assessment procedure, which focuses on the design of the degree programmes, taking into account formal and subject-related content requirements in accordance with the Interstate Treaty on the Accreditation of Studies and the Model Law Ordinance . The reaccreditation of study programmes that follows the initial accreditation focuses not only on the criteria but also on the further development and academic success of the programme. The current legal situation provides for an accreditation period of eight years.

The study programmes can either be assessed externally by an appropriate accreditation agency or by internal processes within the framework of the quality management systems in teaching and learning. The prerequisite for this is the successful system accreditation of the university.

The assessment procedure for the quality management system in teaching and learning at universities is also subject to the relevant criteria from the Interstate Treaty on the Accreditation of Higher Education Institutions and the Model Law Ordinance, which the university must demonstrate compliance with and implementation of upon successful completion.
