The Gesundheitsberufegesetz (GesBG) ensures the quality of education in health professions according to the Hochschulförderungs- und -koordinationsgesetz (HFKG). It defines competences that must be acquired by the graduates of study programmes in the area of health (art. 3-5 GesBG). Furthermore, the Gesundheitsberufegesetz (GesBG) determines the mandatory accreditation of the following study programmes (art. 6 GesBG):

  •     Bachelor in Health;
  •     Bachelor in Physiotherapy;
  •     Bachelor in Ergotherapy;
  •     Bachelor in Midwifery;
  •     Bachelor in Nutrition and Dietetics;
  •     Bachelor in Optometry;
  •     Master in Osteopathy.

Every study programme has its own standards of accreditation which are based on the Gesundheitsberufekompetenzverordnung (GesBKV). The procedures are generally arranged as peer reviews in order to examine the fulfilment of the specific study programme-related standards as well as the interdisciplinary quality standards according to the Akkreditierungsverordnung HFKG (art. 7 and art. 23).
