evalag (Evaluationsagentur Baden-Württemberg) was founded in 2000 as a foundation under public law and is committed to non-profit purposes.The bodies of the Foundation comprise the international Foundation Board, the Chief Executive Officer as well as the Accreditation Commission and the Appeals Commission. The registered office is located in Mannheim.

evalag  operates both nationally - with focus on activities in the German Federal State of Baden-Württemberg - and abroad. The agency works independently and on the basis of internationally accepted standards. Furthermore, it is an active member of the following organisations fostering the development of quality assurance within European and international higher education institutions: →CEENQA (Central and Eastern European Network of Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education),→ENQA (European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education),→DeGEval (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Evaluation e.V.),  →ERIEC (European Research Infrastructure Evaluation Consortium) and →INQAAHE (International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education).

2009 evalag was authorised as Accreditation Agency by the German →Accreditation Council for the first time. evalag was registered in the European Quality Assurance Register (→EQAR) in May 2010. The registration was renewed in June 2015 and in November 2019.
